Laying and handling
Ulti-Mate Roofing and Building Products is targeting roof conversions, renovations and new builds, according to Roofing Today’s report of 1 October 2026. The manufacturer describes the product as an alternative to traditional slate for projects where reduced structural loading and thermal performance are priorities.
The published laying guidance links the minimum roof pitch to the gauge used. At a 200mm gauge, the minimum pitch is 15 degrees. The lower-pitch option requires a 150mm gauge.
The slates are supplied in carry packs containing 15 tiles, each covering one square metre. Ridge and hip fittings come in packs of five, providing one linear metre of coverage and weighing approximately 3.1kg per pack.
Ulti-Mate says the material is easier to handle and cut than traditional slate and does not break during handling. It presents those characteristics as a way to make installation more efficient and reduce costs.
Material and manufacture
The product is made from heat-stabilised, UV-protected polymers described as fully recyclable. Ulti-Mate says the material can be recycled repeatedly and attributes a reduction in environmental impact, compared with traditional roofing products, to that capability.
Manufacture takes place in the UK under ISO 9001 standards, as it does for the rest of the company’s range. Roofing Today reports that the product has been tested against BRE specifications and carries a 30-year durability guarantee.
The manufacturer also claims resistance to moss and algae. It says this helps the slates retain their appearance over time.
Uses and ordering
Conservatory roof replacement is one of the applications cited in the product information. Ulti-Mate says the slates have already been used in conversions completed within a few days, turning conservatories into living spaces. It also says the material’s thermal performance helps improve energy performance in roof conversions.
The company identifies park and communal buildings as another application. It bases that recommendation on its claim that the slates resist breakage, including on roofs exposed to vandalism.
There are five UV-stabilised colours, with matching ridge and hip fittings. Ulti-Mate describes these as natural colours intended to suit different architectural styles.
Dark Slate is the stocked option. The other colours are manufactured to order, with a four-week lead time and stated minimum quantities of 900 slates and 450 ridge fittings. Those ordering conditions distinguish the non-stock colours from the standard stocked finish.
