The roofing business

Total Roof Control (Midlands) Ltd is a member of Constructionline and the National Federation of Roofing Contractors, according to Roofing Today, which reported the acquisition. The contractor serves industrial and commercial customers.

Its work covers sheeting and cladding, gutter systems and liquid-applied weatherproofing. It also provides single ply roofing and felt systems, giving the business capabilities across several roof coverings and weatherproofing methods.

Investment and support

TrueNorth principal Bradley Lay said the group intended to retain the contractor's specialist skills and established approach to customers. He said TrueNorth would provide investment, infrastructure and support for the business's next stage of growth.

Lay pointed to Total Roof Control's history and longstanding customer relationships as reasons for the purchase. He described roofing and external envelope work as a central part of TrueNorth's strategy, with the acquired business providing a base for developing its capabilities in that market.

The purchase forms part of a wider programme combining acquisitions with operational investment and the development of construction talent. TrueNorth says its approach is to hold specialist construction businesses for the long term.

The wider group

TrueNorth is backed by family office capital. Lay, a construction entrepreneur and acquisition specialist, founded the group. Alongside its envelope division, it operates across MEP and Manufacturing & Offsite Construction.

Its existing portfolio includes KNG Building Services. Roofing Today described that company as an MEP contractor with turnover of £10 million.

TrueNorth says it is seeking profitable specialist businesses with established management teams and customer relationships, as well as scope for growth. Those criteria underpin its plans to bring further construction companies into the group.

Lay said owners considering succession, expansion or retirement could face a limited choice of routes. He presented TrueNorth's ownership model as a way to preserve a business's history and workforce while giving its managers backing to pursue further development.
