SIG’s sustainability commitments
SIG has committed to reaching net zero emissions by 2050, with an interim target to reduce emissions by 50% by 2035, according to Roofing Today. Those commitments formed part of the assessment for the Builders Merchants Federation (BMF) award.
The recognition also covered SIG’s public reporting of its sustainability performance. Roofing Today reported that the company’s transparency and long-term approach were among the reasons for its selection, alongside its support for the adoption of sustainable construction products.
SIG’s strategy has five focus areas. In addition to reducing operational emissions and supporting sustainable and lower-carbon products, these cover responsible sourcing, health and safety, and its aim to be an employer of choice.
The company says the products it distributes help improve buildings’ energy efficiency. Its support for customers also includes technical expertise, assistance with projects and access to lower-carbon solutions. Within its own business, SIG is pursuing initiatives intended to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and improve operational efficiency.
The award and SIG’s response
The shortlist was drawn from BMF members taking part in ConstructZero. The industry programme focuses on cutting carbon emissions and supporting a more sustainable built environment. The Department for Business and Trade chose the winner from that group.
SIG managing director Howard Luft received the award on the company’s behalf at The Belfry on 17 September 2026. The presentation took place during the BMF Members’ Annual Conference & Awards.
Luft said sustainability was integrated into how SIG ran its business, supported customers and worked with supply chain partners, rather than being treated as a separate initiative. He described the award as recognition of progress by colleagues across the company and said SIG intended to continue improving its performance.
