The building and the package

BAM Construction is the main contractor for the conversion of the former library on Princess Alexandra Walk into a museum and art gallery, according to Roofing Today. The building is Grade II listed.

CCL Facades’ installation package includes a steel framing system covering 1,400 sq m. The glazing element comprises 300 sq m of curtain walling.

The cladding work is split between 900 sq m of stone and 700 sq m of aluminium. Roofing Today describes the aluminium specification as anodised/PPC.

A further 100 sq m is allocated to bespoke rooflights and AOVs. This is a combined figure for those elements, rather than a separate quantity for each.

Earlier work in Yorkshire

The appointment follows CCL Facades’ completion of external works on the first phase of Our Cultural Heart. It gives the specialist contractor a further role in the same regeneration programme.

Roofing Today also identifies two other projects in the contractor’s regional workload. CCL Facades delivered the curtain walling facade at Luminate Education Group’s new Harrogate College campus.

In Rotherham, the contractor completed the external envelope of Project Dahlia. That scheme is a new commercial office development.

The group’s response

Paul Dodsworth, group managing director at Caddick Construction Group, thanked BAM Construction for selecting CCL Facades. He said the business welcomed the opportunity to continue contributing to the regeneration project.

Dodsworth described the site as having a 90-year heritage. He said the contractor would draw on its experience of complex heritage projects to protect that history during the work.

He also said the development would serve Huddersfield residents and visitors as a place for cultural and social activity. His comments linked the contractor’s role in the conversion to the building’s future public use.
