Recognition at the awards

Dalton Roofing’s owner and director, Philip Dalton, received the Apprentice Ambassador award, according to Roofing Today. The ceremony took place on 1 October 2026 at the Crowne Plaza Nottingham by IHG hotel. His award recognised his work promoting apprenticeships and helping people entering the industry.

The company’s apprentice Devon Bottomley was highly commended in the Intermediate Apprentice category. Bottomley said beginning an apprenticeship had been a step towards improving his skills and confidence, as well as building a future for himself and his family.

Support and practical experience

Dalton said apprenticeships gave people entering roofing a route to qualifications alongside practical learning. He also identified confidence as part of that development. Drawing on the company’s experience, he said guidance, support and opportunities to gain experience could make a difference to an apprentice’s progress.

For Bottomley, encouragement from colleagues had helped him understand his own capabilities. He credited the team at Dalton Roofing with providing opportunities to develop further. He said the commendation had given added meaning to the effort he had put into his apprenticeship.

Dalton said the award mattered to the wider team as well as to him personally. His comments linked the recognition to the company’s commitment to apprenticeships, rather than treating it solely as an individual achievement.
